Noggins
The humble noggin was once favoured for eating and drinking out of. My research reveals its complex secret hidden construction (with XRadia), made by specialists using only wood, yet watertight. Overlooked by historians, it can now be recognised in paintings, in etymology, folklore and on display on peoples’ dressers. This work was supported by a Moore Institute Research fellowship and reaching the finals in Threesis (NUIG, 2015). It also won the Irish Antique Dealers’ Association Paul Johnston Essay Bursary (2016).
